Enhanced Login Security

Our members' online security has always been a top priority for USE Credit Union. That's why USE introduced Enhanced Login Security for Online Banking – a free, easy-to-use service that gives you extra protection from fraud and identity theft.

Until Enhanced Login Security was implemented on October 3, a password was all you needed to access your accounts online. Enhanced Login Security adds another authentication factor to identify you as the true owner of your accounts.

How It Works

Enhanced Login Security works by placing a non-invasive, non-tracking cookie on the browser of computers you use regularly. The cookie is encrypted and contains no externally identifiable information about you or your accounts. When you log in, our Online Banking system verifies your member number and password and checks for the presence of the cookie.

You control which computers receive the cookie by going to the "User Options" section of our online banking site and selecting Enhanced Login Security for Online Banking. USE recommends you install the cookie only on the computers you use regularly and trust, such as your home or work computers. We urge you not to place the cookie on the browser of any public or shared PC, such as one at a school, library, or Internet café. But if you do, don't worry. All you have to do is clear the cache (delete the cookies) from that computer. And if you aren't sure how or forgot to clear the cache, simply contact USE Member Services at (866) USE-4-YOU (873-4968). Our Service Representatives will be happy to help.

What If The Cookie Is Not Present?

If the cookie is not present, you will be presented with a series of challenge questions to answer. These questions are designed to be information about you that would be hard or impossible for anyone other than you to answer correctly. If you answer correctly, you will be granted access to your accounts. Answer incorrectly, and your access will be denied.

Effective October 3, 2006, you will be prompted to choose these questions and answers the first time you log in to our Online Banking system.

If you forget the answers to your questions, a Member Service Representative can reset your questions and answers, but no employee of USE can view the questions and answers you have selected.

Is Enhanced Login Security Required For Members?

Initially, Enhanced Login Security for Online Banking will be offered as an optional enrollment. You will be prompted to select challenge questions and answers, but you are not enrolled in Enhanced Login Security until you download a cookie to your browser for the first time through the "User Options" link in Online Banking. You may enroll at your convenience, but USE Credit Union encourages you to enroll early to enjoy the additional security this service provides.

In the future, Enhanced Login Security will be required for all members using our Online Banking system, as required by the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council. Members who have not already enrolled will receive notifications prior to the mandatory enrollment. At that point, members who choose not to install the cookie on any browser will be prompted with the challenge questions at each and every login.
