We’re Protecting Your Debit Card with Microchip Technology

What Is an EMV Chip Card?
EMV, which stands for Europay, Mastercard and Visa, is a global standard for credit and debit payment cards using embedded microchips. A Chip-Enabled Card is a credit or debit card with a traditional magnetic stripe and an embedded microchip for extra security so you’re better protected from financial criminals. The embedded microchip provides an added layer of protection when used at chip-enabled ATMs and merchant terminals. Keep in mind that if a terminal doesn’t have the new technology, you can still swipe your card as you normally would.

Transitioning to Chip Cards for Added Security
Chip Cards are already being used in most countries around the world, resulting in a reduction in fraud. This improved security is why chip technology is coming to the U.S.  The new debit cards are issued with a microchip on the front and a familiar magnetic stripe on the back and are compatible with existing non-chip capable devices.
